A common misconception in motorsport: you need to spend big to get protected. You don't. The $600 ceiling gets you certified, race-legal suits from the same brands that outfit professional drivers. The difference between a $400 suit and a $1,500 suit is weight, breathability, and layers — not whether it'll protect you in a fire.
Here's what's actually worth buying under $600, based on what we stock and what holds up at the track.
What to Know Before You Buy
Every suit on this list is either SFI 3.2a/1 or FIA 8856-2018 certified. That means it's been tested and rated for fire resistance — not just marketed as "fire resistant." Check your series rulebook for which cert is required. Most club racing in the US (NASA, SCCA) accepts SFI. FIA is required for FIA-sanctioned events.
Single-layer suits dominate this price range. They're lighter and more comfortable than multi-layer suits, with slightly lower TPP ratings. For the vast majority of club racers and track day drivers, a single-layer certified suit is the right call.
The Best Suits Under $600
G-Force GF125 — $119–$159
The entry point. SFI 3.2a/1 certified, available from child small through 3XL in black, blue/black, and red/black. If you're new to racing and need to get legal without breaking the bank, this is the suit. Don't overthink it.
Bell Driver Racing Suit — $179
A step up from the GF125 with better fit and finish. SFI certified, available in black, blue, and red across XXS to 4XL. Bell's reputation is built on helmets, but their entry suit is solid value for the price. Wide size range makes it a good option if you're between sizes.
Sparco Jade 3 — $359
This is where the Sparco name starts making sense at a real-world price. The Jade 3 is FIA 8856-2018 certified — the international standard — at a price point most club racers can justify. Single-layer, lightweight, and available in black through size 3XL. If you want FIA certification without the four-figure price tag, start here.
Alpinestars Knoxville v2 — $449.95
Alpinestars makes some of the best suits in motorsport. The Knoxville v2 is their entry into the sub-$500 range — SFI 3.2a/1 certified, available in sizes 44–64 across multiple colorways. The fit is typically more tailored than Bell or G-Force, which matters for comfort over a long stint. If you're serious about the sport and want a suit that'll last, this is the one to stretch for.
OMP Sport OS 20 — $469
OMP's boot-cut entry suit. FIA 8856-2018 certified, available in black through size XL. OMP tends to fit wider than Sparco, which makes it a better option for drivers who find European sizing runs narrow. Solid construction, clean look, and the FIA cert means it's legal in most international series.
G-Force G-Limit — $529–$579
G-Force's step-up from the GF125. Better materials, improved fit, and a more refined look while staying well under $600. SFI certified. If you started with a GF125 and want to upgrade without jumping to the $700+ tier, the G-Limit is the natural next move.
Sparco Sprint 2021 — $599
Right at the ceiling, and worth every dollar. The Sprint is Sparco's most popular mid-range suit — FIA 8856-2018 certified, excellent build quality, and available in a wide range of sizes and colors. This is the suit that a lot of club racers end up in after they've been in the sport a few years and want something that feels premium without going full professional spec. The 2021 model is the current version at this price point.
